Zimbabweans are well aware of the ongoing energy challenges back home within Zimbabwe. Those living in urban areas face the daily challenge of an unreliable energy infrastructure, power outages and the need for back up generators and other alternatives to provide lighting and energy during such outages.
But for around 70 percent of Zimbabwe’s 16 million people life can be even more challenging. They live off grid in rural or peri-urban areas. They often rely on a mix of paraffin lamps, torches and candles for light, while powering mobile phones and staying connected with the outside world often means the daily expense of charging at the local village store.
Daily productivity is reduced and time is lost. In addition, the average rural household is estimated to spend USD300-400 per annum on lighting alternatives and phone charging. Planning and running daily life is challenging and costly within such an environment, both for households and small businesses.
Ultimately the challenge comes down to a matter of ‘energy security’. The ability of households and small businesses to acquire energy assets that will deliver a clean, reliable source of energy that will provide lighting and the connectivity to power their lives, save time and increase productivity.
The solution for millions can be found in a solar home energy system. These systems deliver the energy security that ensures lighting and power is available. A simple solution that offers multiple benefits. A solution that pays for itself over time both by delivering immediate cost savings and additional income opportunities in the form of a phone charging micro-business or the extension of trading hours for small businesses.
Solar home systems. Delivering energy security. Enhancing life.
